Man Dresses in Epic Glow-in-the-Dark Vincent van Gogh Costume for Halloween

— -- One man channeled his inner artist with his epic glow-in-the-dark Vincent van Gogh Halloween costume.

“I was trying to come up with up an idea where I got to paint my face again,” Vito Polizzi, a recording artist from Detroit, Michigan, told ABC News of the inspiration for his illuminating outfit. “Last year I was Beetlejuice and had fun with the makeup. I'd been told I looked like van Gogh before so it was one of those light bulb moments.”

He’d never done a glow-in-the-dark costume before, but was actually able to pull off the entire ensemble in one day. His costume featured a suit jacket with an elaborate replica of van Gogh’s famous “The Starry Night” painting on the back. It even featured a glowing, bloody severed left ear.

“I started the whole project the same day I needed it. We had a concert at 7 p.m. and I started around noon,” he explained. “Including shopping for the jacket, shirt and tie, as well as makeup. I was actually blow-drying the jacket moments before leaving the house because the paint wasn't drying fast enough. I'd say I spent about two hours painting the jacket, tops. I did the front on Thursday, and then the back on Friday.”

Polizzi, 34, chalks his creativity up to being an “artsy type” who really enjoys Halloween.

“I love any chance for creative expression. Halloween is really fun for me because of that,” he said.

As for how he plans to beat this costume next year?

“It'll be tough to top but that won't stop me from trying,” said Polizzi. “However, if future Halloween costumes don't get media attention now. I'll probably feel like a failure.”
