— -- If things are heating up in San Francisco, it might not be the weather to blame but the police force, one officer in particular.

The officer’s name is Chris Kohrs and citizens of the California city have nicknamed Kohrs “Hot Cop” after a photo of him went viral.

“I was sent to the Castro area one day to do some traffic control during construction work,” Kohrs, 36, told ABC News. “Someone asked if they could take my picture and I said yes and they posted it on the Internet.

“Then it just kind of went from there,” he said of that unassuming day in May when his life began to change.

Kohrs’ observation that his popularity “went from there” could be called an understatement.

The nearly 6-foot tall Kohrs, a San Francisco police officer for six years, now has his own Facebook page with over 24,000 “likes.”

He also says he is stopped on the street daily by complete strangers who not only recognize his face but know his name.

“I’ll just be driving down the street in my patrol car and the person next to me will say, ‘Hey, are you Chris? Can I take a picture?’” Kohrs said. “It’s pretty entertaining.”

Less entertaining for Kohrs is the harassment he gets from his fellow cops for the attention his good looks are receiving.

“They call me ‘Castro’s Finest,’” Kohrs said. “It’s all in good fun but it’s constant harassment.”

Adding to Kohrs’ allure is that he is single. Any potential future partners will have to enjoy life with a police officer, however, because Kohrs says he has no plans to ditch the uniform for a life in showbiz, despite a few offers.

“I’ve been approached for commercial work for local places and a food product,” Kohrs said. “I just said I wasn’t interested at the time but thanked them for the interest.

“I’m just having fun,” he said of the attention.
