— -- What started as a filmmaking endeavor, Explore.org has morphed into a 24/7 immersive website that consists of more than 250 original films, 30,000 photographs and a growing library with hundreds of live cameras streaming all over the world.

Founder, Charlie Annenberg Weingarten created Explore.org and he gets feedback all the time from viewers who tune in and watch wildlife unfold in real time, “It really shows you the power of these cameras in that they’ve created such an emotional connection with our outside environment.”

Weingarten wanted to guarantee the work he was doing revolved around helping others so he uses the content on Explore.org to remind people to take care of the planet and all of the wonderful species that inhabit it, “The key to successful philanthropic endeavors is creating emotional connections, because when you love something, you take care of it. I think the cameras have just become a really powerful medium; they’re a wonderful educational tool as well.”

Someone who considers himself more an archivist than filmmaker, Weingarten formed the idea for Explore after a trip to Africa where he documented his time with anthropologist, Jane Goodall and some of the vibrant people he met along the way. He returned home and decided he could archive the footage of all of these people and show the connections they share. Hundreds of films and journeys later, Explore.org is a place all about discovery: of places, of people, and the world we live in.

Through a partnership with ABC News, viewers have a portal into the natural world straight from their desktop, tablet, or mobile device.

ABCnews.com/live lets you take a break from the daily grind to explore everything from frolicking pandas in China, to brown bears in Alaska, to aqua blue waves crashing on the California coast.

For Weingarten, the partnership between ABC News and Explore enables viewers to see the world through unfiltered content, he says, “When you watch a live cam, you’re getting an objective, neutral, pure view of the world that allows someone to kind of engage in it. The live cameras bring you back to what news itself is about.”
