House Speaker John Boehner gave a nod to Ohio Sen. Rob Portman Thursday night when asked who he would like to see  Mitt Romney choose as a running mate.

"I'm partial to Rob Portman," Boehner said during an interview on Fox News' "On The Record with Greta VanSusteren." "I've been a long time friend. He's a United States senator from Ohio, served as the director of Office of Management and Budget under George W. Bush. Also served as the U.S. trade rep, served in the House of Representatives as well. Knows his way around Washington, and I think he'd be a great asset for Governor Romney."

A fellow Ohioan, Boehner served with Portman in the House from 1993 to 2005, before Portman went on to work for the  Bush Administration and then the Senate.
