WASHINGTON, June 24, 2011— -- With the economy continuing to struggle and the deadline to raise the debt ceiling approaching quickly, high-level negotiations on the deficit break down as two key Republicans walk away from the table. Will President Obama have to step into the negotiations?

"This Week" anchor Christiane Amanpour questions leading members of Congress: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and House Assistant Minority Leader James Clyburn, D-S.C. Can the two parties reach an agreement in time, or could the U.S. default on its debts?

Then, the "This Week" roundtable debates the battle over the debt limit and all the week's politics with George Will, former White House communications director Anita Dunn, Thomson Reuters' Chrystia Freeland and ABC's senior political correspondent Jonathan Karl. How will the budget showdown play out, and how does it affect the economy? How will the 2012 Republican presidential contenders respond? Our panel of experts weighs in.

Plus, President Obama addresses the nation with his strategy for substantial troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. A second "This Week" roundtable examines the withdrawal plan and the politics of war, as George Will joins ABC News' senior foreign affairs correspondent Martha Raddatz and professor of international politics at Tufts University Vali Nasr.
