Joe Biden will win the Hawaii Democratic primary, ABC News projects based on the results provided by the state Democratic party.

The Hawaii Democratic party held its Democratic primary entirely by mail using a ranked-choice system. Ballots were accepted until May 22.

State significance

Hawaii Democrats moved to an entirely mail-in system in light of the coronavirus pandemic. In 2016, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders handily won the state's party-run caucus, walking away with nearly 70% of the vote.
