— -- President Obama mocked Donald Trump's suggestion that the November election could be "rigged" Thursday.

"Of course the elections will not be rigged. What does that mean?" Obama asked when he was questioned about Trump's comments at a press conference Thursday.

"I've never heard of somebody complaining about being cheated before the game was over or before the score is even tallied," the president said.

In continuing his critique of Trump, the president pointed out that elections are organized at the local level and said that a "conspiracy theory" of widespread election rigging would have to include places like Texas, where local election officials are largely Republican.

Regardless of who wins the election in November, the president said it will be his constitutional responsibility to oversee a peaceful transfer of power regardless of his personal feelings about the Republican nominee, who he has called "unfit" to be president.

"At the end of the day it’s the American people’s decision, I have one vote," Obama said. "Ultimately, it's the American people's decision to make collectively."

While some have raised questions in recent days about whether Trump should receive classified intelligence briefings, the president reiterated the need for both the Republican and Democratic nominees to get the information.

"If someone is the nominee for president they need to get security briefings so that if they win, they are not starting from scratch," he said, before taking a swipe at Trump by saying that the anyone receiving the classified briefings needs to act like a president and "spread them around."
