ABC News and Facebook today announced a partnership for live gavel-to-gavel coverage of the 2016 conventions, bringing ABC News’ extensive reporting direct to users’ news feeds from both the Republican National Convention in Cleveland and the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
ABC News will have 24/7 live coverage across a variety of its pages and Facebook will provide ABC News with exclusive, real time data during the major speeches to be used across broadcast and digital platforms. Throughout each day, and between speeches, ABC News’ curated Facebook feed will provide its audience with livestreams from around the city and interviews with a multitude of voices, all providing an in-depth and holistic look at what’s happening in and around the convention area. ABC News’ anchors and correspondents will incorporate viewers’ comments, questions and conversations in the Facebook Live coverage.
“Our live stream strategy is all about bringing users a wide variety of unique moments they may not otherwise see on television,” said Colby Smith, Vice President of Digital, ABC News. “For the conventions in particular, Facebook Live is the perfect platform to reach and engage with our audience, delivering a 360 degree perspective of what’s happening on the ground.”
“ABC News’ innovative programming strategy for Facebook Live, coupled with their strong team of political journalists, will be used to help voters understand the news as it unfolds from Cleveland and Philadelphia,” said Andy Mitchell, Director of News and Global Media Partnerships, Facebook. “With this partnership, Facebook will further solidify itself as the place where people across the political spectrum come to connect with their friends and family and watch democracy in action.”
