"World News Tonight with David Muir" Wins Adults 25-54 for the Week

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” ranked as the week’s No. 1 evening newscast in Adults 25-54 (2.341 million) for the week of November 23, 2015, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.
For the 2nd week running, “World News Tonight” scored across-the-board increases from the previous week (9.161 million, 2.064 million and 1.409 million, respectively, on w/o 11/16/15) in Total Viewers (+6%), Adults 25-54 (+13%) and Adults 18-49 (+7%) to deliver new season highs. In fact, “World News Tonight” saw its most-watched week and strongest news demo performance since February – since weeks of 2/16/15 and 2/23/15, respectively.
“World News Tonight” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers, beating NBC”s “Nightly News,” on Monday (+295,000 – 9.849 million vs. 9.554 million) and Tuesday (+289,000 – 9.504 million vs. 9.215 million). “World News Tonight” also ranked No. 1 on Tuesday in Adults 25-54 (+25,000 – 2.241 million vs. 2.216 million).
“World News Tonight” cut its week-to-week margins with “NBC Nightly News” by double-digits in Total Viewers (-40% - 270,000 vs. 447,000) and Adults 18-49 (-54% - 173,000 vs. 376,000).
“World News Tonight” narrowed its year-to-year Total Viewer gap with “NBC Nightly News” by more than half (-53% - 270,000 vs. 576,000).
Season to date, “World News Tonight” is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (8.466 million vs. 8.442 million). Growing for the 5th straight year, “World News Tonight” is delivering its largest overall viewer audience in 8 years – since the 2007-08 season.
In addition, “World News Tonight” is narrowing its Total Viewer season margin with “NBC Nightly News” by more than half (-51% - 280,000 vs. 569,000), posting its closest overall viewer performance with the NBC program in 8 years – since the 2007-08 season.
For the week, “World News Tonight” outperformed the “CBS Evening News” by 1.667 million Total Viewers, by 532,000 Adults 25-54 and by 268,000 Adults 18-49, posting its largest overall viewer advantage in 8 months – since w/o 3/23/15.
November 2015 Sweep
ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” averaged 8.964 million Total Viewers, 2.059 million Adults 25-54 and 1.390 million Adults 18-49 for the November 2015 Sweep, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research.
“World News Tonight” narrowed its Total Viewer margins with “NBC Nightly News” by double-digits compared to the previous sweep (-36% - 259,000 vs. 405,000 for July 2015) and the year-ago sweep (-54% - 259,000 vs. 588,000 for November 2014). The ABC evening newscast marked its closest Total Viewer performance during November in 8 years – since November 2007.
“World News Tonight” saw across-the-board gains versus the previous sweep (7.526 million, 1.823 million and 1.269 million, respectively, for July 2015) in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+19%), Adults 25-54 (+13%) and Adults 18-49 (+10%).
“World News” outperformed CBS’ “Evening News” by 1.195 million Total Viewers, by 307,000 Adults 25-54 and by 219,000 during the 2015 November sweep.
NOTE: ABC’s and CBS’ weekly averages are based on two days (Mon-Tue), while NBC’s weekly average is based on three days (Mon-Tue and Fri). “World News” was coded special on Wednesday and Thursday due to Thanksgiving and did not air nationally on Friday. In addition, NBC’s “Nightly News” was coded special on Wednesday and Thursday and CBS’ “Evening News” was coded special on Wednesday and Friday and did not air on Thursday. All specials are excluded from the weekly averages.
