BCS final tickets selling on the cheap

— -- Fans of Florida State and Auburn who decided to hold out until the last minute for tickets to Monday's VIZIO BCS National Championship are in luck.

Prices on the resale market of some of the tickets have dipped below the face value of $325 and $385, making the game one of the cheapest championship games to attend.

As of 8:30 a.m. ET on Monday, nearly 1,000 tickets to the game were selling below face value, according to TiqIQ, a ticket market data provider.

The median price of a ticket paid for the game on ticket resale site StubHub through Sunday was $799. That's 45 percent cheaper than the median price paid for last year's title game on the site ($1,459) and 47 percent cheaper than the median price paid for the game in 2012 ($1,528).

The last time the median price for a ticket paid on StubHub dipped below the $1,000 mark was in 2011, when Auburn played Oregon. The price paid on StubHub that year was $925.

The Rose Bowl in Pasadena seats the highest number of the four BCS stadiums at 93,000. That compares to 76,000 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, 75,000 at the Superdome in New Orleans and 72,000 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. 

Although Florida State and Auburn didn't have trouble selling their 20,200 tickets each, many of those buying up the tickets -- including donors -- were sellers, said Jimmy Siegendorf, owner of online ticket brokerage Premium Seats USA based in Hollywood, Fla.

"It was clear from the very beginning, that with the travel expenses and the airfare, that a lot of the people getting the tickets were selling them," Siegendorf said.

Distance traveled tends to have an effect on where final prices settle.

And Monday's game marks the first time in the 14-year history of the BCS that the campus of both teams are at least 2,000 miles away from the championship venue.  

For the 2004, 2008 and 2012 games, prices were high thanks to the fact LSU was playing in the game in New Orleans.
