Cubs strike first on Indians' miscue

— --

The World Series moved a little closer to a Game 7 before the Indians even picked up a bat ?Tuesday.

After two quick outs, the Indians fell apart in the first inning of Game 6, allowing three runs -- two of them on a costly misplay.

Kris Bryant lashed a two-out homer off Josh Tomlin over the tall wall in left field at Progressive Field.

Tomlin, pitching on three days rest for just the second time in his career, had looked sharp early. He got ahead of the first three batters he faced, including Bryant. But Bryant deposited an 0-2, 76 mph curveball for the first run of Game 6.

Tomlin then allowed singles to Anthony Rizzo and Ben Zobrist to put runners on first and third.?

It appeared as if Tomlin would escape when Addison Russell lofted a fly ball to right center. It was center fielder Tyler Naquin's ball to catch, but with right fielder Lonnie Chisenhall racing over, Naquin did not take charge. The ball dropped in, and the Cubs had a 3-0 lead on what was officially ruled a two-run double for Russell.
