Bing: Tim Tebow tops search list
— -- Perhaps it's because Tim Tebow hasn't been on an NFL sideline this year, but people are apparently still searching for him.
Search engine Bing announced that its data shows that Tebow was the most-searched athlete in the United States in 2013. He also was atop the list of athletes searched on Yahoo!
The former NFL quarterback was followed by skier Lindsey Vonn and her boyfriend Tiger Woods. The first major surprise came at No. 4 with Louisville basketball player Kevin Ware, who suffered a gruesome injury in the NCAA tournament when a piece of his bone popped through the skin in his right leg. Rounding out the top five was Ray Lewis, who retired after 17 years following a Super Bowl win for his Baltimore Ravens and is now an ESPN NFL analyst.
Two NBA players, LeBron James (No. 6) and Dwight Howard (No. 8), made the top 10. Back on the most-searched lists for yet another year are Danica Patrick (No. 7), Derek Jeter (No. 9) and Maria Sharapova (No. 10).
Outside of the U.S., soccer players dominated Bing searches throughout the world. Former player Leonardo, now director of football for Paris Saint-Germain, topped searches in Italy. Ronaldo was still the most searched in Brazil, while Cristiano Ronaldo was the most searched in Spain and France. Barcelona's Lionel Messi was the most-searched athlete on Bing in the U.K. in 2013.
Bing is the second-most-used search engine in the U.S., with about an 18 percent share of the search market, according to comScore. Google leads the way with about 67 percent of the market.
Google said it will release results of the searches on U.S. athletes in 2013 later this year.
