— -- Boston College became the first team in ACC history to go winless in conference in both men's basketball and football in the same academic year following Saturday's 66-50 home loss.

The Eagles men's basketball team concluded a 0-18 ACC season by losing to Clemson after going 0-8 in league play during the 2015 football season.

Boston College became the first ACC men's basketball team to go winless in their conference regular-season games since Maryland went 0-14 in 1986-87, the season after the death of Len Bias. It's the sixth time a team has gone winless in conference play in league history.

"I try not to get too down," said coach Jim Christian, in his second season with BC. "I lean on a lot of people that I know, one of them is [Clemson coach Brad Brownell]. We're really good friends. People that coach, they know. People who are in basketball, they know. They know how fine of line it is in this league."

Not since former Southwest Conference member TCU went a combined 0-24 during the 1976-77 season has a school from a major Division I conference done it. Georgia's 1943-44 football and men's basketball teams mark the last time a member of one of the current Power 5 leagues posted a fully defeated in-conference season.

Of the 18 ACC losses, three have been by five or fewer points. That includes a three-point loss to then-No. 9 North Carolina Feb. 9 in a game they led for nearly 36 minutes.

Despite going oh-fer in the ACC, all is not lost for BC (7-24 overall) as they do have another shot in this week's conference tournament.
