— -- Columbus (20-30-2) at Calgary (30-16-6) 10:00 pm EST CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- Coming off a tough loss, the Calgary Flames host the suddenly potent Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday. The Flames own a one-point lead over the second-place Vancouver Canucks in the Northwest Division and figure to be one of the top contenders in what has turned into a tight postseason race in the Western Conference. Calgary had a chance to end its five-game road trip with a winning record but came up short in a 3-2 shootout loss to the lowly St. Louis Blues on Monday. Daymond Langkow and Marcus Nilson tallied in the contest, but the Flames squandered a two-goal lead to a Blues team comprised mostly of rookies after the departures of veterans Doug Weight and Mike Sillinger. Although his club earned a point in the contest, Calgary coach Darryl Sutter wished his club could have concluded its 2-2-1 road swing in better fashion. "It's been a long road trip, but you would think that we would do better than lose a 2-0 lead," Sutter said. "Especially against a team like this, going through what they have been going through, you need to wrap it up when you get a lead." The Flames return home on Wednesday to host a Blue Jackets team which hopes to carry the momentum from an 8-4-1 month of January, the winningest month in franchise history. Columbus rallied to post a 4-3 victory over the Nashville Predators on Saturday. Dave Vyborny, who was named the NHL's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, tallied twice and defenseman Rotislav Klesla had three assists for the Blue Jackets, who can match the longest winning streak in club history with a triumph Wednesday. Columbus has has not won four straight since March 21-27, 2004.
