Daily Word: The keys in Oklahoma-Kansas showdown

— -- Each weekday, our college hoops experts discuss the biggest issues, trends and themes in college basketball.

1. What must Oklahoma do to beat Kansas on the road?

Andy Katz: Oklahoma doesn't get rattled. The Sooners are one of the most experienced teams in the country. Oklahoma just has to ensure it can convert those second shot opportunities and cut off Kansas from doing the same. Oklahoma is as good an offensive team.

Jeff Goodman: The Sooners are a veteran team, but Allen Fieldhouse is still such a tough place to play. Oklahoma needs to get off to a good start, stay out of foul trouble (the Sooners aren't deep) and they need to make sure they don't get dominated on the glass.

Dana O'Neil: There is a line between excited and overhyped; the Sooners need to make sure they don't cross it. If Oklahoma gets too over-the-top and misses shots, turns the ball over and generally loses its poise, it will be lights out in a hurry. Kansas can keep up with the Sooners bucket-for-bucket so the Jayhawks need to make sure they don't dig themselves a hole early.

2. What's the biggest key for Kansas?

Katz: Late-game execution. This game will go down to the final few possessions.

Goodman: Kansas has to make sure Wayne Selden is aggressive and is looking for his shot. But the bottom line is this team has a ton of weapons and can withstand foul trouble or even a sub-par performance by Selden. They have to control Oklahoma's guards -- especially Buddy Hield. OU can't win without a big game from Hield.

O'Neil: Stop Buddy Hield. It sounds easy. It's nearly impossible. Kansas will go into the game realizing that Hield will get his share, but his share can't be the lion's share. Oklahoma can't win if he's limited and the Jayhawks have to try and limit him as best they can.

3. Who wins? Why?

Katz: Kansas. By a deuce. This one will be a classic late-game Phog Allen affair with a late call that puts Kansas at the line to win it. But I will jump ahead and say the season series will be split when the two teams return to Norman.

Goodman: Kansas -- because the Jayhawks almost never lose games on their home court. KU will wear down Oklahoma and/or get the Sooners' key players in foul trouble.

O'Neil: Kansas. Allen Fieldhouse is going to be bedlam and Bill Self has lost there all of nine times in his career. The homecourt is the difference maker in a game that promises to be high octane and highly entertaining.
