— -- On the day Dannon Yogurt dropped? Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton?following his controversial remark toward a female reporter last week, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter the company signed Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

Dannon has already scheduled Prescott to shoot his first TV commercial this week in Dallas, per a source. Prescott also has deals with Pepsi, Frito-Lay and Beats.

Newton apologized Thursday for his "extremely degrading and disrespectful" choice of words after being asked a question by Charlotte Observer reporter Jourdan Rodrigue at a news conference on Wednesday.

Rodrigue had asked Newton about wide receiver Devin Funchess embracing the physicality of routes and whether Newton got enjoyment out of that. Newton laughed and responded, "It's funny to hear a female talk about routes like ... it's funny."

Michael Neuwirth, a spokesperson for Dannon, said in a statement Thursday that the brand was "shocked and disheartened" by Newton's remark and said it would "no longer work with" the 2015 NFL MVP.

Neuwirth confirmed that the company would continue to keep Newton under contract, but has started the process of pulling existing advertising that includes Newton.

No player signed more endorsement deals this year than Prescott.

He has deals with Beats By Dre, Tostitos tortilla chips, Campbell's Chunky Soup, Pepsi, 7-Eleven, New Era Caps, AT&T and the company owned DirecTV, signed a new autograph deal with Panini and a private air travel deal with Nicholas Air.

Industry sources say his sponsorships will likely pay him about $3 million a year, which is more than five times what the Cowboys will pay him this year ($540,000).
