Dave Stewart new GM for D-backs

— -- PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks announced the hiring of Dave Stewart as their new general manager Thursday.

De Jon Watson has been named senior vice president of baseball operations. Stewart and Watson will report directly to chief baseball officer Tony La Russa. The trio has a combined 122 years of experience in professional baseball.

Stewart, 57, is the only current general manager to play and coach in the major leagues.

The D-backs fired Kevin Towers as GM earlier this month.
