David Price has mild hamstring strain

— -- Tigers ace David Price expects to make his next start after suffering a mild hamstring strain in Friday's game against the Royals.

The Tigers announced the diagnosis on Price's hamstring Saturday but said they would wait until next week before determining whether the left-hander would skip a start.

But Price, who underwent an MRI on Saturday, told reporters he feels "fine" and anticipates making his next scheduled start Thursday against the Minnesota Twins.

Price suffered the injury on a fluke play in Friday night's victory over Kansas City when he stepped on a bat.

With one out and runners on first and second, Alex Gordon singled on an 0-1 pitch. Gordon dropped his bat at the plate, but home plate umpire Alan Porter, anticipating a play at the plate, grabbed it and tossed it toward the screen.

Price, running to back up a throw to the plate, stepped on the bat with his right foot and immediately came up lame, hopping until he came to a stop near the Royals' dugout.

"[Porter] just threw it in a bad spot," Price, who allowed a career-high 13 hits, told reporters. "I know he didn't mean to. It's just one of those things that happen. I'm a fan of [Porter's], so it's all right."

Price, who allowed a career-high 13 hits Friday, is 3-1 with a 3.30 ERA in seven starts this season.
