-- Championship games for Fantasy Football are underway this week and here is how the weather may affect some players in your lineup. A chance of rain on Sunday in the Northeast could affect several games, from Baltimore to East Rutherford to Buffalo.
The Patriots play the Jets on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, at 1 p.m. ET and scattered showers are in the forecast although temperatures will be unseasonably mild. There’s no stopping the Jets this week; they are ready to beat the Patriots, and get that much closer to the wildcard spot in the playoffs. That means they will need to make some big plays using some of their key receivers like Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall. Both of them have scored in six of the last eight games, and both need to be in your lineup again this week regardless of any wet weather.
We should still acknowledge the chance of rain here and talk about the Patriots backfield. Dion Lewis and LeGarrette Blount are both done for the season due to injuries, so that leaves James White as the team's main running back. He proved himself last week, picking up over 70 yards and a touchdown against the Titans. If you need it, lock him in as an RB2 or Flex option in your lineup.
There’s a bigger threat of rain in Buffalo, New York, where the Cowboys play the Bills on Sunday. Rain is likely and it’s also cloudy and cool with highs in the 40s. Earlier in the season Sammy Watkins complained about his small role on the Bills’ offense, but the second half of his season has been a boon to fantasy owners. He is consistently scoring and getting over 100 yards per game.
There is bad news on the offense here though when we talk about running backs. LeSean McCoy is considered week to week for the final two weeks of the season. If he does miss time due to his torn MCL, then Mike Gillislee or Karlos Williams could take over. Both could be solid plays, but it might be a timeshare in the backfield here, so take that into consideration if McCoy is out.
This cold front stretches all the way to Midwest. Wet weather in possible from Kansas City to Nashville, with the best chance of rain in Tennessee on Sunday when the Texans play the Titans at 1 p.m. ET. If you have the Texans defense you have to play them this week against the Titans. Last week they held the Colts to only 10 points and 190 yards. During the last match-up between the Texans and Titans, the Texans defense put up 19 fantasy points. Backup quarterback Zach Mettenberger was playing then and it looks like he’ll get that starting job again this week while Marcus Mariota is out on injury.
