— -- Ole Miss coach Huge Freeze, who has been rumored to be a candidate for the Florida Gators' coaching vacancy, has agreed to a contract extension with the Rebels, it was announced Tuesday.

Freeze and Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork announced the agreement Tuesday morning on Twitter.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reported Monday night that the extension will raise Freeze's salary to $4 million per season. The source did not mention the length of the extension.

Freeze had been making $3 million per season for the Rebels.

Florida issued a statement Monday saying "we have made no job offers to anyone" after reports surfaced that Gators had contacted Freeze. A source told ESPN.com's Brett McMurphy that Florida never contacted Freeze or Ole Miss about the opening.

Freeze, a native of Oxford, Mississippi, is 24-13 in three seasons as the head coach at Ole Miss. He also worked at the school as an assistant from 2005 to '07.

"The new number became $3 million last year," Bjork told the Daily Journal on Nev. 12. "We're at $3 million. So what's the new number (now)? Is it closer to 4? I don't know that 5 is the new norm yet," he said. "We're committed to playing and competing at the highest level."

Ole Miss (9-3, 5-3 SEC) led the nation in scoring defense (13.5 points per game) prior to upsetting No. 4 Mississippi State on Saturday

"It wasn't about us spoiling the year for them as much as reclaiming what we think is ours," Freeze said. "(Mississippi State) had a good season in a great league."
