— -- LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Jordan Spieth briefly interrupted playing partner Jason Day's birdie barrage with a hole-in-one during the opening round of the BMW Championship on Thursday.

Playing the par-3 second hole at Conway Farms -- his 11th of the day -- Spieth used a 7-iron from 186 yards for his second career PGA Tour ace.

His first came at the 2013 Puerto Rico Open.

Minutes afterward Thursday, Spieth, 22, said that this was the fourth hole-in-one of his life. He made his first when he was just 14.

Spieth was in a generous and celebratory mood as he took to Twitter following his round.

Following back-to-back missed cuts at the first two FedEx Cup playoff events, Spieth seemed to turn things around following the ace. He immediately birdied each of the next two holes.

Day, meanwhile, was 8 under through 13 holes on the par-71 track. Two years ago, this course yielded the sixth 59 in PGA Tour history when Jim Furyk posted the number in the second round.
