— -- The Seattle Seahawks and Marshawn Lynch are scheduled to discuss the running back's future with the team next week, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Ed Werder.

There are no active negotiations between the team and his representatives. Lynch's contract runs through the 2015 season.

Lynch led the NFL this season with 17 touchdowns and finished fourth in rushing with 1,306 yards. His 216 rushing yards entering Sunday were the most among running backs this postseason.

Lynch is finishing the third year of a four-year deal that will pay him $6.5 million in 2015. He will be an $8.5 million salary cap hit in 2015, but the Seahawks would save $7 million if they release him.

General manager John Schneider was asked about Lynch's contract in a session with the media on Jan. 24.

"He's under contract next year and he's a warrior,'' Schneider said of Lynch. "He goes out there every weekend and lays it on the line. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a better running back in the National Football League."

Lynch, who is controversial at times, has been fined twice this season for obscene gestures on touchdown runs and had to pay a $100,000 fine for not talking to the media. When asked Schneider was asked if he was tiring of Lynch's act, he said, "I kind of like his act."

Lynch held out for eight days in training camp over his contract. He reported after he was given $1.5 million for the 2014 season, bumping his guaranteed compensation from $5 million to $6.5 million. He had been seeking $5 million more than that amount, however.

In October, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that many in the Seahawks' organization -- including Lynch -- did not expect the running back to be on the team's roster in 2015.

ESPN.com Seahawks reporter Terry Blount contributed to this report.
