Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton heads to disabled list

— -- The Miami Marlins' playoff chances took a hit Sunday when the team put slugger Giancarlo Stanton on the disabled list with a left groin injury.

The team also put left-hander Adam Conley on the DL with finger tendinitis on his pitching hand.

The Marlins trailed the Cardinals by one-half game for the second wild card entering Sunday's play.

Stanton was injured Saturday when he made an awkward slide while trying to stretch a single into a double in the ninth inning against the White Sox. He was tagged out for the final out of the game and was slow to rise. He finally limped off the field as the? Chicago White Sox?celebrated an 8-7 victory.

Stanton had had a very productive night for the Marlins, with three hits (including his 25th home run of the season) and three RBIs.

Conley gave up five runs in four innings Saturday and said he has been pitching with soreness in his pitching hand that has been getting worse. He hurt his left ring finger banging his hand on the roof of the dugout at Wrigley Field celebrating a teammate's home run on Aug. 3.

Conley is 8-6 with a 3.94 ERA in 24 starts this season.?

As part of the Stanton and Conley roster moves, the Marlins?called up infielder Robert Andino, recalled left-hander Hunter Cervenka and released Cody Hall.
