NBA investigating Austin Rivers after Clips guard hit fan with seat cushion

— -- The NBA is investigating an incident involving Los Angeles Clippers guard Austin Rivers, who threw a seat cushion into the stands and struck a fan in Sacramento, California, on Wednesday night, a league spokesperson confirmed to ESPN.com's Kevin Arnovitz.

USA Today earlier reported the investigation, saying the seat cushion hit a woman in the second row at Sleep Train Arena and that she experienced discomfort in her eye.

No other details of the incident were immediately available.

Potential punishment for Rivers reportedly could come later Thursday or Friday.

The Clippers won Wednesday's season opener against the Sacramento Kings 114-104. Rivers had three points in 16 minutes, shooting 0-for-3 from the field and 3-for-4 from the line.

L.A. is back in action Thursday night against the Dallas Mavericks.

Earlier this year, then-Clippers forward Glen Davis was fined $15,000 for kicking a seat cushion into the stands during a game against the Celtics in Boston.
