— -- Russell Wilson has a sprained ankle, but coach Pete Carroll is optimistic that the Seattle Seahawks quarterback will be able to play in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams.

"He's got a little bit of swelling, and he'll make it through," Carroll said on 710 ESPN Seattle. "How could you think otherwise? He's going to make it through it. We have to take into account that it's going to be hard. It's going to be hard for him to practice and stuff like that. So we'll have to do a few things here."

Carroll confirmed that the team is discussing the possibility of adding a veteran quarterback. Wilson's backup is Trevone Boykin, an undrafted rookie out of TCU.

Wilson was injured in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins when defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh sacked him and stepped on his ankle. Wilson indicated on Twitter on Monday morning that he'll be ready to go in Week 2.

Asked if it's a high ankle sprain, Carroll said, "There's a little bit of everything, but nothing's very serious. It's just, he's got a sprained ankle."

Carroll added that Wilson has a high pain tolerance.

"Unbelievable," Carroll said. "He doesn't care. He doesn't care what everyone feels like. He's going to go anyway. It doesn't matter what it is. He was banged up a couple years ago. You guys didn't even know it. His teammates didn't even know it. He's a stud.

"He liked that he got banged up. He liked that he had to try and finish this thing because he wanted to see if he could do it. He wanted to prove that he could do it."
