— -- Safety Bernard Pollard doesn't blame fans if they don't want to cheer for the Tennessee Titans. He says he wouldn't root for his team, either, based on its recent play.

Pollard, trying to fire up his teammates after a 1-3 start, said Wednesday that the Titans need to show more fight and they can't blame the team's fans if they don't want to support them. If he's "offended people," Pollard said, he "couldn't care less."

"We need to just show up and play. As far as saying we need the fans to show up and back us up, they've been backing us up since we've been here," he told reporters. "You want to call them fair-weather fans and say they don't show up, rightfully so. I wouldn't root for this team, either, because we're a team that comes out and shows greatness one time and then we come out and drop an egg. We can't do that."

The Titans won their opener 26-10 at Kansas City but lost their next three games by an average of 22 points.

Pollard says he's hoping to get his teammates angry because the Titans have "guys that can be stars in the league" but the team has "sucked butt" with its 1-3 start. "Right now, we're doormats to a lot of people around the league," he said.

Pollard thinks a change in mentality can turn around the Titans' season.

"The teams here in the last 10 years, I don't want to say it has accepted things, but we've got to come out and we have to throw punches and we've got to fight," he told reporters. "It doesn't matter if you come out with a bloody lip. So what, you've got 10 other guys fighting with you.

"If we're going to go down, we're going to go down fighting. We have to be a better football team because our fans deserve better. This city deserves better and this organization deserves better."

The Titans host the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
