— -- OTTAWA -- Andrej Meszaros enjoyed his first two-goal game on a night when the Ottawa Senators reached 100 points for the third straight season. The rookie defenseman scored two of Ottawa's three power-play goals in a 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins, completing a sweep of the four-game season series. The Senators (47-15-6) improved to 10-1-1 since the Olympic break - all with Ray Emery in goal - and became the first team in the league this season to reach 100 points. The Detroit Red Wings reached the mark later Tuesday night with a shootout loss to the Nashville Predators. Meszaros, a first-round pick in 2004 and a member of the Slovakian Olympic Team, snapped a 1-1 tie with a blast from the top of the right faceoff circle at 7:13 of the second period. He beat goaltender Sebastien Caron again with a slap shot from between the circles with 16:21 left in the third period. Captain Daniel Alfredsson added a power-play goal and an assist for the Senators, who also scored three times with the man advantage in a 4-0 win over New Jersey on Sunday. Along with scoring his seventh and eight goals of the season, Meszaros also played a physical game, low-bridging Penguins rookie Sidney Crosby with 5:41 left in the third period. That resulted in a two-minute penalty for Meszaros with the Senators leading, 4-2. But Antoine Vermette scored a shorthanded goal for Ottawa 49 seconds later. Vermette blocked a shot by defenseman Sergei Gonchar at the left point, gained possession of the puck and skated in alone to beat Caron for Ottawa's league-leading 21st shorthanded tally. Colby Armstrong and Tomas Surovy scored for the Penguins, who have lost seven of 10.
