Feb. 6, 2014— -- Team USA suffered a blow to their gold medal chances in the group figure skating team event today when Jeremy Abbott stumbled during his short program.

The four-time defending U.S. champion hung his head while he waited for his results.

At the end of the day's event, the Russians were at the top of the leader board. Team USA finished the day in a three-way tie for fifth place, tied with Germany and France.

The Americans aren't out of the race yet, though. On Saturday, Ashley Wagner will perform her women's short program, along with ice dancing power couple Meryl Davis and Charlie White.

The countries with the top five scores will then advance to the finale on Sunday, when skaters will perform their long programs for their final chance at securing medals.
