— -- Former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne visited with the New England Patriots and took a physical Sunday with the reigning Super Bowl champions, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

In addition, sources told ESPN that the Green Bay Packers might also be interested in contacting Wayne, pending the results of an MRI to Jordy Nelson, who is feared to have suffered a torn ACL during Sunday's preseason game.

Wayne, who parted ways with the Colts earlier this year after spending 14 seasons with Indianapolis, arrived in New England on Saturday night, sources told Schefter.

The Patriots are currently dealing with injuries to several members of their receiving corps:

? Top receiver Julian Edelman has been out since Aug. 2 with what is believed to be a leg/ankle injury.

? No. 2 receiver Brandon LaFell, who was spotted in the offseason with a boot on his left foot, has been on the physically unable to perform list since camp opened.

Brian Tyms, a candidate for a spot as the fourth or fifth receiver, sustained a foot injury Wednesday that could threaten his season.

Aaron Dobson, a 2013 second-round pick, has reportedly been slowed by a hamstring injury.

? Veteran Brandon Gibson, who was making a push for a roster spot, injured his knee late Saturday night against the Saints and underwent X-rays after the game.

"Just pray for the best, that's all you can do," Gibson said.

The Colts announced on March 6 that they would not re-sign the 36-year-old Wayne, a six-time Pro Bowler. Wayne said last month that he wanted to return for one more season in the NFL, although he acknowledged he was unsure where he would play.

Wayne had his most unproductive season since 2002 last season, totaling 64 receptions for 779 yards and two touchdowns while dealing with an elbow injury and torn triceps in the second half of the season.
