Stephen Curry out against Mavericks

— -- Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry isn't playing in Dallas on Wednesday night because of soreness in his injured lower left leg.

An MRI on Wednesday revealed a bruise but no structural damage.

"As long as it's not anything serious, we're fine that he might need a couple of days to heal," said interim coach Luke Walton, who said after Tuesday's practice that Curry also could miss Thursday's game in Houston against the Rockets.

The Warriors are listing Curry as day-to-day. Wednesday's game is the first he has missed since March 13, a 114-103 loss at Denver last season.

Shaun Livingston started in Curry's place, and Walton said several players will fill in at point guard. Backup guard Leandro Barbosa also is out Wednesday because of a sprained left shoulder.

Walton also said it will take a team effort to fill the 30-point void left by the absence of Curry, the NBA's leading scorer and reigning MVP.

"We told the guys we need everyone else to step up, but not in an individual attitude, as, 'I'm going to go get these points for us,'" Walton said. "It's got to be, 'We are going to do this. And we're going to be aggressive, and we're going to look for our shots, and we're going to attack and create for our teammates.'"

Walton said Curry didn't have too much trouble accepting the medical decision.

"He wants to be competing," Walton said. "A lot of that will be decided between the medical staff and Steph. As coaches, obviously, we put our input in, making sure he's healthy before we clear him to play. That will present itself as the days go on here."

A source previously told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne that Curry suffered the injury in Monday's game against Sacramento.

Curry did not practice Tuesday, one day after he recorded his sixth career triple-double in Golden State's 122-103 victory over the Kings.

Curry was bothered by a strained right calf in Golden State's victory against Cleveland on Christmas Day, but this injury is to his other leg.
