Police Charge Woman Found with Carruth

C H A R L O T T E, N.C, Aug. 4 -- A woman who police say helped hide RaeCarruth after he was charged with murder has surrendered toauthorities.

Wendy Lovette Cole turned herself in Thursday night and wascharged with harboring a fugitive. The 27-year-old woman was beingheld on a $5,000 bond in the Mecklenburg County Jail.

Federal agents found Cole with Carruth on Dec. 15 inWildersville, Tenn., a day after he was supposed to turn himselfinto police.

The former Carolina Panthers receiver and three other men werecharged in the Nov. 16 shooting of Cherica Adams. The 24-year-oldwoman, pregnant with Carruths son, died Dec. 14. Her son,Chancellor, survived.

Price said Cole picked up Carruth that day at his home, and theywent to Tennessee. Carruth, then out of jail on a $3 million bond,was to report to police that day.

Acting on a tip, FBI officials and local police found Carruthinside the trunk of a car more than 500 miles from Charlotte.

Searched for Cole for Months

Darrell Price, a Charlotte-Mecklenberg homicide investigator,said Cole was not arrested because authorities werent sure then ifshe had broken any laws. He said she was questioned the night Carruth wasarrested and allowed to go.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police interviewed Cole once afterCarruths arrest, then couldnt find her for months.

If she has information she hasnt given us about that longride to Tennessee, wed be more than glad to hear it, Price said.That is not why she is being arrested, though.
