Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird and U.S. women's national team soccer player Megan Rapinoe are engaged.

Bird, 40, and Rapinoe, 35, have been dating since getting to know each other during the 2016 Summer Olympics. Bird is a four-time WNBA champion, having won her most recent title earlier this month in the bubble in Bradenton, Florida, as she completed her 17th season in the league. Rapinoe spent the season in the bubble with Bird.

Bird posted a photo to Instagram on Friday of Rapinoe kneeling and placing a ring on her left hand.

The Storm also posted a message to Twitter congratulating the couple.

Bird, a former UConn star, won two NCAA titles, and she also has four Olympic gold medals with the U.S. women's basketball team.

Rapinoe, who played collegiately for Portland, won gold with the U.S. soccer team at the 2012 Olympics and the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2015 and 2019.

Rapinoe won the Golden Ball and the Golden Boot at the 2019 event. She also plays for the NWSL's OL Reign in Seattle, although she didn't compete this year.

Bird came out as gay in an ESPN story in July 2017 in which Rapinoe talked about the impact each had on the other.

"We have a lot in common and just sort of clicked," Rapinoe said then. "I joke she is my No. 1 go-to-for-advice person. She's just so levelheaded."
