— -- St. Louis Rams rookie running back Todd Gurley made his NFL debut Sunday in a 12-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He finished the game with just 9 yards on six carries. He also had one reception for five yards.

Before Sunday, Gurley had not played this season while recovering from a knee injury suffered in November while at Georgia.

The Rams listed Gurley as questionable on Friday, and coach Jeff Fisher said it would be a game-time decision as to whether he would play.

But Fisher also acknowledged that he was "really pleased with the progress this week" from Gurley, who split first-team reps in practice with Tre Mason.

Mason will start, but Gurley is expected to get as many as 26 touches depending on the flow of the game, according to ESPN NFL Insider Chris Mortensen.

Gurley, the No. 10 pick in the NFL draft in April, was the first running back selected in the draft this season.
