Tom Brady's Baseball Pitching Needs Some Work
The Patriots quarterback bounced first pitch in front of the plate.
— -- Tom Brady is one of the top quarterbacks in NFL history -- and he was a successful high school baseball player, too.
But his attempt at the ceremonial first pitch at Monday’s Boston Red Sox home opener left much to be desired.
The four-time Super Bowl champion’s pitch bounced in front of the plate and veered far outside the strike zone, causing Red Sox star David Ortiz to stretch to make the stop.
First pitch fails are as much a part of baseball as peanuts and crackerjack -- from 50 Cent’s huge miss at a 2014 Mets game to President Obama’s soft, errant toss before a 2010 Washington Nationals game.
But Brady is an athlete with a baseball background. He was drafted in the 18th round of the 1995 First-Year Player Draft by the Montreal Expos franchise (now the Nationals), but he decided to play college football instead, seemingly making the right choice.
While his throwing needs some work, Brady has a solid swing, connecting on a batting practice pitch Monday from Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez.
