— -- RIO DE JANEIRO -- Usain Bolt, Simone Biles and Kerri Walsh Jennings all return to action on a busy Tuesday at the Olympics:

Women's and men's individual events, coverage begins 1 p.m. ET: Simone Biles is favored to win her fourth gold medal of these Games as she competes in the floor exercise final (1:47 p.m. ET). Biles, the three-time defending world champion in the event, could become the fifth woman (and first American woman) to win four gymnastics golds in the same Olympics, and the first since 1984. Her main competition will likely come from teammate Aly Raisman, the defending Olympic champ.

On the men's side, Danell Leyva (parallel bars, horizontal bar) and Sam Mikulak (bar) look to earn medals after the Americans fell short in the team event.

Men's 200 qualifying (10:50 a.m. ET), triple jump final (8:50 a.m. ET); 110-meter hurdles final (9:45 p.m. ET): Usain Bolt, Justin Gatlin and LaShawn Merritt all return to the track for men's 200 qualifying heats. Bolt told reporters this week: "I'm always confident going into the 200 meters. I think the 100 meters is always the hardest one for me. Going to the 200 now, I'm very confident." Also during the day session, American Christian Taylor will look to defend his Olympic title in the triple jump.

In the evening, University of Oregon two-sport star Devon Allen looks to medal in his Olympic debut, as the men's 110 hurdles final wraps up the evening. He'll have to get past the race favorites, Jamaican teammates Omar McLeod and Hansle Parchment.

Women's quarterfinals, U.S. versus Japan, 5:45 p.m. ET: The U.S. women's team begins the knockout stage against Japan, which has never medaled in basketball and is in the quarters for the first time since losing to the United States in 1996. The U.S. won its five group games by an average of 40.8 points, with the smallest margin of victory being a 26-point win against Serbia.

Women's beach volleyball, semifinals, 10:56 p.m. ET: Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross will face reigning world champions and Brazilian home favorites Agatha and Barbara. Walsh Jennings remains undefeated in 26 Olympic matches, winning 52 of 54 sets played. With the match under the lights at Beach Volleyball Arena, expect a rowdy crowd.

Indoors, the U.S. women's team opens elimination play against Japan (1 p.m. ET). The U.S. had won back-to-back Olympic silver medals leading into Rio.

Women's semifinals, noon and 3 p.m. ET: The semifinals of a major women's soccer tournament will be played without the United States for the first time, as the Americans were ousted by Sweden in the quarterfinals. None of the four semifinalists have won Olympic gold (Brazil-Sweden, Germany-Canada), and only Brazil has reached an Olympic final (2004, 2008).
