— -- GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Green Bay Packers Pro Bowl receiver Javon Walker injured his left hamstring Sunday night and was held out the rest of the practice.

"I felt something pull when I was running," Walker said, adding that he didn't consider it to be serious.

Mark Roman and rookie Nick Colalins, working as the starting safeties, collided hard as they defended a pass play over the middle during the 75-minute practice.

Both players stayed on the ground for a few minutes before walking off under their own power. Neither player returned to field. A visibly shaken Roman wore an ice pack on the back of his neck. The extent of the injuries for either player wasn't known.

Walker's injury occurred two plays into the first 11-on-11 segment of the evening practice. Quarterback Brett Favre threw a deep pass in Walker's direction down the right side but the ball was just out of reach.

Walker came off the field gingerly and a trainer then took him inside an adjacent building where he had the back of his upper left leg heavily wrapped with ice.

He watched the rest of practice from an equipment cart with his left leg propped up. Walker joined his teammates in the post-practice huddle on the field, then walked away with a slight limp.

"It's not that bad at all," Walker said. "I could have kept on going. But, it's just taking a precaution before it gets worse than what it already is."

Coach Mike Sherman said the decision to keep Walker out of the rest of the practice was for precautionary reasons.

It's the second time Walker has been injured in the first 10 days of training camp. He hurt his upper back running a pass route on July 30, the second day of camp, but missed only one practice.

Walker reported to camp on time after missing both offseason minicamps and threatening to continue his hold out because of unhappiness with the five-year deal he signed as their first-round draft pick in 2002. The team isn't ready to appease him.

It's unclear whether Walker will be back on the field Monday, when the Packers resume two-a-day practices ahead of their preseason opener Thursday against San Diego at Lambeau Field.

The team was given Saturday and most of Sunday off after its scrimmage against Buffalo on Friday night.
