White Sox OF Carlos Lee named AL Player of the Week

— -- NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Chicago White Sox rookie left fielder Carlos Lee, who hit .483 with three home runs, today was named American League Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday. Lee led the A.L. with 14 hits and 14 RBI and shared the lead with 26 total bases. Lee, who slugged .897 with a .484 on-base percentage, has had at least one hit, a run and an RBI in his last seven games. The 23-year-old Lee is currently batting .306 with 11 homers and 65 RBI. He is in his sixth season in the White Sox organization after signing as a free agent in January, 1994. Also considered for the award were Toronto third baseman Tony Fernandez, Cleveland outfielder Manny Ramirez, Detroit second baseman Damion Easley and pitchers Pat Rapp of Boston and Seattle's Freddy Garcia.
