Sept. 16, 2010— -- Microsoft has unveiled the test version of Internet Explorer 9. The new web browser is designed to make Web sites load and run faster. The stripped-down browser also has far fewer buttons, icons and toolbars. You can download it now for free at beautyoftheweb.com.

Apple will release new software for the iPad and iPhone in November that solves one of the biggest complaints about the devices. The update will allow users to wirelessly print documents and photos. A test version of AirPrint was released to app developers Wednesday. Initially, the feature will only work with certain Hewlett-Packard printers.

The smart phone could soon get a lot smarter. Intel's research chief says technology is advancing to the point where phones could act as mind readers, predicting what people might do next and offering suggestions.

For example, phones may one day recommend restaurants during visits to a new city, based on the kind of foods a person normally likes to eat.
