Aug. 10, 2010— -- Google and Verizon are facing backlash over their proposal to regulate Internet service. The companies laid out their vision in hopes it can serve as a framework for Congress and the Federal Communications Commission in drafting new rules. They want to ban Internet service providers from blocking online content, or offering some providers a paid fast lane. But the plan offers exceptions for Internet access over mobile networks and for potential new services. Critics say those exceptions will create a two-tiered Internet that could lead to higher prices for consumers.

The NFL season is one month away, and that means it's time for this year's installment of the best-selling Madden video game franchise. Madden NFL 11 hits stores today. CNET's Dan Ackerman says this version has a feature that makes it easier for casual players.

"The new Game Flow system lets you set up a couple of preferences at the beginning of the game if you want. And then a virtual coach calls the best play for you at the beginning of every down, and you can just run the play, and hopefully you will do it well," Ackerman said. "Or you could override the coach and pick your play in a more traditional style, but it makes it a lot easier just to say, hey what should I do here, I need some advice here." The The game is available for all the major gaming consoles, and there will also be versions for the iPhone and iPad.

Sam's Club is outfitting all its warehouse stores with free Wi-Fi by November. The Wall Street Journal reports that the retailer is hoping the free service will help it sell Internet-connected televisions. The technology is relatively new and this will give customers a chance to test it out. Free Wi-Fi will also allow customers to check competitors' prices.

Apple has given us computers, iPods, iPhones and the iPad. Could an iBike be next? The company has filed a patent for a smart bike. It has a docking station on the handlebars for an phone or iPod Touch that connect with sensors on the bike to give the rider real-time information. Perhaps it would be safer if it was on a stationary bike.
