April 26, 2010— -- Oprah Winfrey is out with her own branded mobile applications for the iPhone, BlackBerry and other devices. The apps allow users to view video from Winfrey's talk show, listen to audio clips, participate in polls and even keep up with her tweets. But it'll cost you: $1.99 for the iPhone application and $2.99 for the BlackBerry app. The question is, will Winfrey's loyal legions pay for most of what's available free online?

There's a new way to pay for your apps, PayPal. The pay online service is going to begin facilitating apps purchases for your iPhone and in the Android market. Used to be that Android apps could only be purchased via Google checkout, but now Android users can use PayPal as an additional payment method. And Apple users will also be able to use PayPal for purchases of iPhones, iPads and other devices.

The iPad is going to be allowed into Israel. The country was the only one to ban imports of Apple's tablet computer, over concerns that its wireless signal could disrupt other devices. But concerns have been dropped after what Israel called "intensive technical scrutiny." Apple has delayed the iPad's international launch until late May because of heavy U.S. sales.

Barnes & Noble has added a "read in store" function to the Nook eReader. It allows you to browse any eBook on your 'nook,' while you're in a Barnes & Noble store. But when you leave, the eBook disappears. The company says the new software also improves the Nook's overall performance, including allowing for Wi-Fi connectivity in more hotspots and faster page turns.
