— -- Would-be suitors beware: Cynthia is well aware of your deceptive ways.

She knows you're not actually 6'4", fit, or independently wealthy. "My motto is 'What a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive' -- which is perfect for online dating because everyone is always deceiving each other."

Born and raised in New York City, Cynthia manages a New Jersey hair salon by day and searches for Mr. Right online by night (well, maybe a little at the hair salon too).

"Where are my men?" she urgently asks her computer. "I've always had a man in my life. I never thought I'd be single. At 25 I was married, and the person who I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with betrayed me."

Now 33, Cynthia enjoys all the freedom of the single, modern American female, especially when it comes to the Internet and dating.

"Women have an upper hand when it comes to online dating. I definitely feel more in control when I'm going through the profiles, because I know what I'm looking for." Sometimes, though, the description doesn't match the product, and she confronts her deceiving date -- without hesitation.

Pity the man who lies to Cynthia.

"There are times when I get depressed," says Cynthia. "But I just have to get myself right back up again. After all the bad dates and relationships, I still haven't given up hope. The search for Mr. Right continues ... "

ABC's documentary series "Hooking Up" follows 11 women through a year of online dating. The series debuts Thursday, July 14, at 9 p.m. ET.
