— -- A Facebook glitch is telling some people today they've been friends on the social network for an astounding 46 years.

There's one big problem: Facebook wasn't around on Dec. 31, 1969. Mark Zuckerberg started the social media site in 2004.

The Dec. 31, 1969 date is significant in computer science because the following day, Jan. 1, 1970 GMT, is when the Unix operating system began tracking time. That means if a computer system is reset, the date in the United States appears as Dec. 31, 1969, the Daily Dot reported.

Rest assured, Facebook is working on the issue. A representative told ABC News: "We've identified this bug and the team's fixing it now so everyone can ring in 2016 feeling young again."
