— -- A leather-clad smartphone may be the last thing anyone dreamed of but LG hopes customers will take to its flagship G4 smartphone.

Sporting full-grain leather, the device goes on sale today in key markets around the world -- however North American smartphone shoppers will have to wait. The roll-out plan will take the phone to Turkey, Russia and Singapore before it hits the United States, Europe and another markets.

LG Electronics CEO Juno Cho echoed a similar refrain heard at other high profile smartphone launches for Apple and Samsung, calling the device the "most ambitious" smartphone LG has ever made.

"Our vision is to create our own set of standards without worrying about what trend other smartphones are following," he said in a statement. "We think we have a winning formula because the initial reaction to the G4 has been tremendously positive."

Aside from the full-grain leather, here's what you need to know about the South Korean electronics company's flagship phone.

Size

The G4 has a 5.5-inch screen -- meaning it's the same size as the iPhone 6 Plus.

Color Options

The leather back comes in six color options -- or consumers can choose from three 3-D patterned material covers.

Camera

Let's be honest: The camera is often the selling feature of a smartphone. A sharp 16-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front camera take crisp shots on the G4, which also comes with a removable microSD card.

Durability

LG says the phone comes with a Slim Arc design, allowing users to better grip it -- and to increase the phone's likelihood of survival should -- heaven forbid -- anyone drop it.

Performance and Power

LG says the G4 is the only smartphone equipped with the newest Snapdragon 808 processor with X10 LTE. A removable 3,000 mAh battery also supports rapid charging.

Price

Price points haven't been announced and will vary by carrier and market, LG said on its website. At least 180 carriers and retail partners globally are on board for the launch of the phone.
