— -- While many people use LinkedIn to network for new opportunities, the social network said it turns out a staggering 30 percent of members are also using the service each month to look up their co-workers.

Enter Lookup, a new app from LinkedIn allowing people to quickly find information about co-workers and message them, even if they're not a connection on LinkedIn. The app is designed as an alternative to using a company's Intranet, which more than half of the 814 professionals surveyed by LinkedIn said could do a better job in helping pinpoint co-workers with certain skills.

The free app is currently only available for iOS. After downloading it and signing in with a company email address, users can search and view profiles of any co-worker who has a LinkedIn profile, even if they have not yet downloaded Lookup.

After locating a co-worker, the user will be able to get their email address and any other information they have made available. It's also possible to search for someone by other categories, including by title or skills.

Whether it's used by a large corporation or a growing company, Lookup is designed to make the people inside of a large company feel a little more familiar.
