TechBytes: Apple Responds to iPhone/iPad Tracking Claims

April 28, 2011— -- In today's TechBytes, Apple responds to concerns the iPhone and iPad are tracking people. CEO Steve Jobs acknowledged Wednesday that Apple has made mistakes in how it handles location data, but says the company is not tracking anyone. The devices do keep a list of nearby Wi-Fi hotspots and cell towers, but an upcoming software update will make sure that information is kept for only seven days, not a year.

White iPhones Arrive

The long-delayed white iPhone finally goes on sale today. The device was introduced last year, but has been held up by manufacturing problems. It will be available through AT&T and Verizon Wireless.

Sony Sued Over Security Breach

Sony has been hit with the first of what could be many lawsuits over the massive security breach of its PlayStation network. Two lawsuits filed Wednesday claim Sony waited too long to tell customers about the hacking attack, leaving them exposed to potential credit card losses. It took Sony six days to warn its 77 million subscribers about the breach.
