TechBytes: FCC Plans for 911 Texting Capability

Texting for emergency services may one day be available.

Aug. 11, 2011— -- In today's TechBytes, texting emergency services is on the horizon. The FCC has a new plan in the works that would allow people to text or send multimedia messages to 911 from their mobile phones.

But implementing it could take years.

Kindle Cloud Reader

You can now get Kindle books anywhere. Amazon introduced the new Kindle Cloud Reader app Wednesday.

It allows access to Kindle books instantly from a web browser, without downloading the book.

Search Engine Rankings

Google is still the most-used Internet search provider, but it lost some ground last month. The share of U.S. searches performed through Google declined about a half a point, to 65.1 percent.

Yahoo's share edged up past 16 percent.

Trust in Credit Cards for Mobile Payments

It seems Americans trust credit card companies the most when it comes to making mobile payments. A survey by Ogilvy and Mather found Visa, Mastercard and American Express were the most trusted.

The bottom of the list when in came to consumer trust? eBay and Facebook.
