Oct. 2, 2008 — -- The mother of missing Florida toddler Caylee Anthony has been named a suspect in her daughter's disappearance.

Police previously called Casey Anthony, 22, a "person of interest" in her daughter's case.

Lt. Angelo Nieves of the Orange County Sheriff's Department in Florida said there was no new information that had led authorities to classify Anthony as a suspect and he would not say whether police were close to making an arrest.

"We still have a little girl who is missing and we don't have any credible information about where she is or where she was last seen," he said. "To this date her mother fails to provide us with any information that would help find her child."

Anthony has been charged with child neglect and making false statements, but has not been charged in her daughter's disappearance. She faces several check fraud charges in unrelated cases.

Anthony has pleaded not guilty. Her lawyer was not immediately available for comment today.

Caylee was 2 years old when she was reported missing July 15, but her mother told police that she had not seen her daughter in 31 days. Anthony has given the police changing and inaccurate information about the case, according to investigators.

A law enforcement source has told ABC News that investigators found evidence of human decomposition in the trunk of Anthony's car and the sheriff's department has said it believes Caylee is probably dead.
