Aug. 17, 2008— -- Isaac Hayes, 65 -- Singer and actor best known for his 1971 hit theme for the movie "Shaft." He later won over a new generation playing Chef on "South Park."

Bill Gwatney, 48 -- Chairman of the Arkansas Democratic Party.

Jerry Wexler, 91 -- Vice president of Atlantic Records who coined the term "rhythm and blues" and helped turn Atlantic Records into a powerhouse.

"The arrangement is not the notes on paper, it's the totality of the music."

THIS WEEK, THE PENTAGON RELEASED THE NAMES OF NINE SERVICE MEMBERS KILLED IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN.
