State Fair Food: Deep-Fried Beer

State fairs are all about the food, especially those that come on a stick. This year, the Minnesota State Fair is debuting camel on a stick. Yes, camel.

Jamal Hashi, owner of the Safari Express food stand, said camel is a cherished delicacy back in his home country of Somalia. He imports the meat from Australia, where the animals are farmed. Hashi compares the flavor to bison. He says it's a lean, high-protein meat without any gamey taste.

The organizers of the State Fair of Texas hold an annual contest among fair concessionaires to find the tastiest and creative new foods. This year, one of the top entries was deep-fried beer. On Labor Day each year, the finalists are narrowed down to two which are allowed to be sold at the fair.
