Two people were killed and 11 others were hurt in two shootings that erupted 45 minutes apart near a second line parade in New Orleans on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Ten were shot in the first incident and three were shot in the second, New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said Monday.

All of the injured victims are in stable condition, she said.

No arrests have been made, Kirkpatrick said.

Authorities are investigating whether the shootings were related, Kirkpatrick said, noting that at least two guns were used.

The police department said it immediately shut down the second line, which is a type of parade with live brass band music.

About 100 officers were on the scene of the second line, which drew thousands of spectators on Sunday, and yet "the tragedy still occurred," Kirkpatrick said at a news conference.

New Orleans Councilman Eugene Green, who was at the second line, said "the New Orleans Police Department was well-represented before the second line, during and even following the second line and along the parade route."

Second lines are a part of New Orleans’ culture "and will continue to be so," Kirkpatrick said. "But we have got to work together with the community to prevent any potential for violence."
